Besides taking numerous courses by noted instructors as Tom Brown Jr. and Mors Kohanski, prior and since, I continued to learn outdoor skills from various teachers. As a graduate of Lakehead University in Natural Science, Outdoor Recreation (& Parks and Tourism), graduate studies at the University of Alberta (nature experience research) along with a teacher Education degree, I have worked hard to develop my interest in studying/facilitating quality, wilderness experiences.

My wife Tania Marsh, brother Barrie Clifford and I (Chad Clifford) founded the Alba Wilderness School in the 1990's. Although we have moved on, Alba still operates now under the instruction of Howard Clifford (story-teller and long-time honorary member of Alba). I have since been involved in sharing / learning traditional skills in Edmonton, the Canadian Arctic, and am now back in Eastern Ontario.

Among the traditional skills learned or shared in the past include: bow and drill fire (rubbing sticks), traditional & emergency shelters--quinzhee and igloo too, winter camping & travel, wild edible and useful plants, animal track identification, traditional bow and arrow making, brain-tanning, drum & rattles, snowshoe building, various other wood and leather craft, native-flute music, Inuit kayak & birch bark canoe building, wilderness survival techniques. More recently, I have spent time in the Arctic teaching at the elementary and high-school in an Inuit community. Here too, I have had the luxury of learning from elders on aspects of survival living skills.
